Our Curriculum
Our purpose is to give young people a voice to change the world.
We help students build a strong sense of who they are — independence, self-esteem, self-worth — so they have what they need to make a real difference. We want them to love learning and aim high academically, while nurturing their creativity, their relationships with others, and their understanding of the world around them.
Our curriculum builds strong academic skills and good character through a broad range of subjects and memorable experiences, built on three simple ideas: Heart, Mind, Connect — each reflecting a quality we want to nurture in our students.
We never stand still. We reflect constantly and adapt to ensure our students get the best possible education. Belonging sits at the heart of everything: we want our students to leave us confident, proud of who they are, and ready to make a difference in the world.
Our Belonging Curriculum is delivered by staff who know our students well and care deeply about them — bringing real optimism, expertise and skill. It shows: our students’ results keep improving, year on year.
We challenge social injustice by building knowledge and skills through a curriculum that is broad and balanced. Every subject sets out clearly what students should know and remember, built on the National Curriculum and brought to life through experiences beyond the classroom — preparing students for their exams while building the wider knowledge and experience that will serve them for life.
As an all-through school, we’ve thought hard about what our students need to know and do to confidently find their voice and change the world. Our subject specialists plan so that each phase builds on what came before and prepares students for what’s next — this careful sequencing of what is learned, when, and in what order, gives students the richest possible experience.
Our Curriculum by Phase
Phase 1 (Early Years) is all about giving your child the best possible start. From day one, they’ll enjoy a broad mix of learning — structured phonics, writing and maths sit alongside music, PE and creative play, helping them build confidence and curiosity right from the start. Children learn through play for as long as they need to in Year 1, so they feel secure and ready before more formal lessons begin.
Phase 2 is where reading, writing and maths take centre stage. We’re committed to every child reading by age six, giving them the confidence to access everything else on offer. Our Mathematicsout Mastery programme builds strong number skills, while specialist teachers lead music, PE, art & design, Spanish and computing — and humanities and science are planned with specialist input too, so your child starts to see how different subjects connect.
Phase 3 sees specialist subject teachers take the lead across the board, helping your child think more clearly, critically and creatively. This is where they move from primary-style to secondary-style learning, taking on the full range of National Curriculum subjects with growing depth and independence — building the study habits and resilience they’ll need for the years ahead.
Phase 4 (Year 9) keeps things as broad as possible for as long as possible. Your child continues with humanities, music, art and computing alongside their core subjects, taught by specialists who challenge them to think further. This means they get to make truly informed GCSE choices, rather than narrowing their options too soon.
Phase 5 (GCSEs) is about opening doors for your child’s future. Our GCSE offer combines a strong academic core — English, maths, science, a language, and history or geography — with real breadth: every student takes a creative subject and studies RE, alongside options like computing and citizenship. For those drawn to a more hands-on path, we offer high-quality vocational courses in PE, Health and Social Care, and Business. It’s this combination — academic success, practical skills and wider experiences — that gives every student the confidence to find their voice and make their mark.
Beyond the Classroom
Throughout their time with us, students also learn beyond the classroom through our Belonging Curriculum and enrichment programmes — building resilience, confidence and new skills through clubs, trips, visits, arts festivals, lectures and workshops.
Belonging Curriculum
At the heart of our school is the belief that education is about more than academic success — it’s about shaping young people who thrive in life and make a positive difference in the world.
Our Belonging Curriculum is built on three values: Heart, Mind and Connect. Through Heart, students learn creativity, confidence and kindness. Through Mind, they build the resilience and learning habits that support success in school and beyond. Through Connect, they find their voice and become active citizens in their community.
We describe our approach as building a nest — a secure foundation from which every student can explore, take risks, and eventually take flight. From tutor time and wellbeing lessons to trips, leadership roles and careers guidance, belonging is woven through every part of school life, at every phase, for every child.
