We can’t wait to welcome our September 2021 starters!
The transition from primary to secondary school can be a time of both excitement and anxiety for children and parents, but we work tirelessly to support students and their families in making this big step, aiming for a smooth and positive experience.
The uncertainty caused by coronavirus has made planning ahead difficult, however we will be in regular contact with families, updating them with news and information. This page will be updated regularly with useful information, such as key dates, information videos and activities for students.
This letter from Lesley Bowyer, Senior School Effectiveness Officer at Calderdale Council, explains the transition arrangements for Year 6 students in Calderdale as of 28 June 2021: Year 6 Transition Letter
We are holding two exciting transition events so that all of our new students can meet their new friends and teachers! It’s really important that your child attends BOTH of these events as they each offer different things.
This will be a day packed full of fun activities for everybody to enjoy. Students will need to arrive via the main gates on Gibbet Street. Lunch will be provided, but please ensure your child brings water with them. Students must wear casual clothing/leisure wear and trainers.
During this first transition day students will receive a subject based activity pack to complete at home.
This day will have more of a school based focus with Faculties showcasing their subjects. Students will also get the opportunity to meet their new form tutor. Students will need to arrive via the main gates on Gibbet Street and they must wear their full Halifax Academy school uniform.
Please note that ties will be provided by us, so don’t worry about those!
We will be providing all new Year 7 students with an equipment pack, which contains all of the stationery that they will need, including a scientific calculator. We are asking parents to make a £10 contribution towards these packs; payment can be made via ParentPay.
We will be sending out ParentPay activation letters over the summer holidays, so please keep an eye out for these – they will be posted to your home address. You will need to activate your ParentPay account to enable you to pay for school meals, trips and other items.
During the holidays you will receive a pack from us. Please look through the contents and provide the information we need from you, by completing the forms and returning them to us in the stamped addressed envelope included.
