Extra testing programme – how to take part

Calderdale’s Director of Public Health, Deborah Harkins, is asking everyone aged 12 and over that lives, works or studies in Todmorden, Park and Warley wards of Calderdale and/or mixes with people from these areas, to take a PCR test as part of an extra testing programme. To reach as many people as possible, we are asking all students and their household members to take a test.

We will commence this process at The Halifax Academy on Tuesday 15 June.

Each student and staff member will bring home enough tests so that they and those they live with can take the tests at home. Students and staff members will then return the tests to school the following day and they will be sent away to be analysed.

On receipt of your PCR test you will be required to register your details and the unique PCR test barcode number via the GOV.UK website. Instructions on how to do this are included with the PCR test – a step by step video guide is included in the adjacent links. You will receive your test result by text or email dependant on the contact details you register. The test must be returned in the transport pack provided within 24 hours of taking the test to The Halifax Academy. Dedicated collection boxes will be on site for the tests to be deposited.

Information from Calderdale Council about the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine

Calderdale Council has produced a flyer containing information about the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine:

Calderdale Council flyer – English

Calderdale Council flyer – Urdu

The main symptoms of COVID-19 are:

  1. A high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  2. A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  3. A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

If your child has any of the main symptoms of COVID-19:

  • Keep your child at home and contact the academy to inform us on: 01422 301080 (Secondary) or 01422 430480 (Primary)
  • Arrange a test online (search NHS COVID-19 testing) or by calling 119 as soon as possible
  • Anyone your child lives with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also stay at home. When you get your test result you will be advised what to do next
